ABOUT US
Presbyterian Preschool was established in 1972 by the Session of First Presbyterian Church of El Campo as part of it's ministry with the goal of providing a high-quality preschool educational program for the community in a confidence-building, Christian environment.
And we didn't just consider our students only as students….we called them fruits! At Presbyterian, each grade level is denoted by a type of fruit:
For the Pre-School and Pre-K children, we have combined a variety of educational methods to help us meet your child’s needs. We will primarily use a learning center approach with many ideas and methods coming from our research of preschool education. This means your children will learn in centers provided and supervised by their teachers. Children can progress at their individual level both socially and academically. This also enables the children to engage in many self-directed activities. This helps them develop self-confidence, independence, and creativity.
The Kindergarten class is taken to another classroom, the “Red Door.” The purpose is for more teacher-directed learning as opposed to the student-directed learning center approach in the main classroom. We feel this is needed to help students make the transition to the more structured environment to get them ready for the first grade.
Our regular Kindergarten, Pre-K, and Preschool programs are half-day, running from 8:30am-12:00 noon. In 2008, the Preschool's Board recognized the need for an extended day program and our DaySchool was born! More than just a day care service, the DaySchool strives to mirror and reinforce the curriculum introduced in the morning hours while still allowing for playtime and fun.
The DaySchool also spawned another generation of fruit: The Kiwi!
And we didn't just consider our students only as students….we called them fruits! At Presbyterian, each grade level is denoted by a type of fruit:
- The Apples are our Kindergarten (5 & 6 Year-Old) students.
- The Oranges are our 4 & 5 Year-Olds.
- The Bananas are our 3 & 4 Year-Olds.
